Every year from December to March, the California Gray Whale makes its annual 5000-mile migration from Alaska to its breeding grounds in the warmer waters of Scammon's Lagoon (Laguna Ojo de Liebre) in Guerrero Negro, Baja California Sur, Mexico. In order to preserve this unique environment, the Mexican government allows only a limited number of visitors into Scammon's Lagoon under very close supervision.
